Help us find and protect all the great Hutt trees that hold special significance for our community.
Lower Hutt has more 140 notable trees being cared for and protected by council through our district plan. From the trees planted in the famous Mason Gardens, including one of New Zealand’s oldest magnolia trees, to the Kauri trees in Eastbourne that commemorate fallen soldiers in World War I, these trees make an important contribution to our community’s history and identify. It’s been six years since we reviewed the list and we want to know if there are any more trees we should be considering.
The significance of a notable tree may be linked to its visual features, it's connection to our local heritage, or the botanical value the tree brings to our local landscape.
If you know of a special tree in our community, let us know before Monday 22 November 2021 and we’ll take a look in our next district plan review.
Your nomination will be assessed against set criteria. If the tree you nominate meets the threshold, it can be considered for protected status under the district plan.
